Counseling Services provides free and confidential personal and career counseling, crisis intervention for students, access to community resources, and consultation for College faculty and staff members. Our services are designed to help students understand themselves and their difficulties, and ultimately make healthy choices for their lives. Services are provided in a nurturing environment where similarities and differences among people are recognized, respected, and honored.
The mission of Counseling Services is to promote student learning and development by providing counseling and referral services that address the need for retention-focused resources, and address the career and mental health care needs of Cincinnati State students.
Personal/Mental Health Counseling
Students with problems of a personal/emotional, social, career, or educational nature may use individual short-term counseling services (up to 10 sessions per semester) provided by professionally trained counselors and graduate student counseling interns.
On a voluntary basis, students may seek services that address issues such as anger, anxiety, depression, adjusting to college, self-esteem, family issues, grief and loss, depression, and/or interpersonal issues.
The Counseling Services Office provides the following services directly, through referral, or in collaboration with other departments, if you would like to make a referral for a student please complete the Counseling Services Referral Form.
Designed to identify students needs, appropriate services, and referral to community resources.
Offered to enrolled students to help students assess and overcome specific deficiencies in educational preparation or skills for success in college, including issues such as time management, test anxiety, study skills, balancing responsibilities, and developing strategies to deal with expectations found in college.
Designed to assist students with personal/emotional concerns. Students will be seen as soon as possible. Consultation with counseling professionals should provide opportunities for students to explore the nature of the crises and identify appropriate alternatives for resolution.
For emergency medical intervention, call 911 to arrange transportation to the nearest hospital emergency room.
Consultation is available as-needed basis for students, faculty, and staff members to provide information or assistance with a variety of concerns. Counseling Services will work with individuals and/or departments to identify appropriate resources for specific situations, including crisis management, providing better services to students, and/or offering guidelines for referrals. Faculty and staff may arrange for consultation services by calling or visiting the Counseling Services Office.
Counseling Services provides educational programs that support and enhance the learning environment for students. Sample program topics include study skills, career development, test anxiety, success motivation, and classroom behavior issues.
Faculty, staff, or representatives of student organizations with a specific program need should contact Counseling Services to make arrangements for a presentation or workshop. Please provide at least two weeks notice on requests for presentations.
