Course Description

A 13-week, 154-hour evening program designed for individuals who will install, program, maintain, or troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers in an industrial setting. Students gain working knowledge of electrical ladder logics and the basis of PLC programming. Students learn the fundamentals of PLCs including processor configuration, Digital Input and Output (I/O) wiring, digital & analog concepts, and PLC program instructions. The advanced PLC class provides students with advanced programming instructions, remote I/O, introduction to Allen Bradley Device Net, and advanced troubleshooting. This program focuses on the Allen Bradley Small Logic Controller (SLC)-500 & Compact Logic PLCs and Rockwell Software (RS)Logic (500 & 5000) programming.

Course Objectives

Help students gain an understanding of:

  • Set up and configure Allen Bradley PLCs
  • Upload/download and run PLC programs
  • Understand and write basic PLC programs
  • Start up and maintain PLC applications
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software, which includes advanced PLC systems
  • Understand and be able to program analog, Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID), MCR, and other advanced instructions
  • Understand and able to use Harvard Medical International (HMI) network communications

Course Features

  • This course prepares an individual to sit for the National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification exam
